Bayern Munich have signed Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso from Champions League winners Real Madrid for a deal believed to be worth around £8m (€10m).

It is believed that Alonso had offers from other Premier League clubs but turned them down as he wanted to preserve his memories with Liverpool. The 32 year old said, “‘I had five great years at Liverpool and I would rather just keep that memory as it is. The interest came in from Bayern in the last two weeks and it’s the right decision.”

Alonso felt that the Champions league win which gave Real the La Decima ushered in a new era for the Galacticos and admitted that he needed a new start. With injuries to Javi Martinez and Thiago Alcantara, it is believed that  Pep Guardiola suggested Alonso’s name to the Bayern board to get the pass master. Alonso is also expected to feature in Byaern’s starting eleven featuring as a deep plying playmaker.

Alonso, who earlier this week announced his retirement from international football after winning one World Cup and two European championships with Spain also won the Champions League with Liverpool in his debut season in England in 2005.
