Well, well well! there is finally some good news for Arsenal fans. Reports from English tabloid METRO have claimed a story that the Gunners have just edged ahead in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels. Arsenal have several defensive concerns at the back.
While Matheiu Debuchy injured and Laurent Koscielny also sent back from France’s national team base, Wenger finally conceded that he needs to sign a centre back in January to plug the defensive woes. Youngster Calum Chambers too has been played out of positions but Wenger would certainly know he cant challenge for top spots and silverware without specialist players.
While United have been linked with the World Cup winner all throughout the summer, the player had indicated that he has no intentions to leave. However with Dortmund’s poor start to the season, the situation might change.
Some days ago, we had reported that United would try to give their all to sign Hummels. METRO had also quoted Spanish media source Fichajes that United will tempt Hummels to make the move to Old Trafford by offering the player huge wages which they believe will be difficult to turn down. And with lingering contract renewals and demands for better wages, the player might finally want to make a move to the lucrative Premier League.
Arsenal’s desire to beat United to get Hummels comes as a good sign. Of late, the Gunners haven’t been able to compete with power houses in the transfer market. But Wenger’s decision to go all out for his main target certainly seems a good plan. But will the North London really be able to finally land the player? Arsenal’s German connections are well known and with a trio of German Internationals in their side, Wenger could easily ask his personnel to personally talk with Hummels and convince him to move to the Emirates.
