Transfer Update On Manchester United’s Bid For ‘Norwegian Messi’

Martin Ødegaard

Strømsgodset star Martin Ødegaard has attracted a lot of interest from top European clubs after his sudden rise despite being just 15 years of age. Manchester United were being linked with Ødegaard after his rise and there were indications that they have made a bid, but his club’s sporting director Jostein Flo has revealed that the Premier league side haven’t lodged any bid yet, “We have not received a bid from Manchester United for Odegaard, so once again this is just speculation.

“It might have come through the mailbox, but it has certainly not reached me,” he told TV2.

Real Madrid too are being linked with the ‘Norwegian Messi’ as they feel he’ll be an ideal replacement when the likes of Ronaldo and Bale enter the twilight of their careers.

Earlier last month, Ødegaard revealed that he would love to play for Liverpool as he dubbed them as his dream club. However, he went on to add that he will join the club that suits him and his development, “Liverpool have always been my dream club.

“But I will not let this affect my decision when I choose a new club.

“It’s all about finding the team that is best for me and for my development. That is not necessarily Liverpool.

“I haven’t really thought about my future yet. I will end the season here and then visit a number of clubs. I have not made a final decision yet, though.

“Of course, it’s flattering when you hear that big clubs are after you, but I don’t think about it too often.”

Risk worth taking

It would be somewhat risky to sign him as he is only 15. However, there have been quite a few players in recent times who have lived up to their billing as future stars. The likes of Raheem Sterling, Calum Chambers, Raphael Varane, Mario Goetze have impressed despite having the load of a huge transfer fee on their shoulders when signed.

Ødegaard has shown signs of real promise which led to comparisons with Lionel Messi and the fact that he has already made his Norway debut just goes to show that he will become a big star in the future. He has made 23 appearances in the Norwegian league so far and has scored five times.
