Part of the reason why Man City have been successful this year is down to individual brilliance in various matches and the fact that a relatively new squad, consisting of world class players has formed to build a brilliant understanding.
The same old stories of how David Silva is the ‘Premiership’s Messi’ and ‘the best in the league this season’. Other stories of how Mario Balotelli is a changed man and along with Dzeko and Aguero they are scoring for fun and have formed a deadly strike partnership are circling round the City faithful, as the reasons why the Blue moon is rising.
But for me there is one man who doesn’t get as much of a mention as he deserves…’Yaya Toure’.
Personally, Yaya has to be one of the first picks on the Man City team sheet. He has unbelievable physical power and speed that combined with his amazing ball control allows him to turn defence into attack with one of his trademark bursting runs.
Yaya is also a vital player for any team as he is the sort of player who can play in any position.
When he was at Barcelona he was the defensive midfielder that played alongside Xavi and Iniesta, before Busquets came on the scene. On occasions Yaya was forced to play at centre back when injuries occurred and on occasions and more so for City he has played behind and supported the strikers in attack.
Since playing for Barcelona Yaya has become a world class player. Barcelona paid Monaco €9 million and sold him to Manchester City for £24 million three years later. That just shows how he has developed as a player and why he is easily worth the £24 million price tag today.
Although Yaya doesn’t have a tremendous goal scoring record when he does score they are vital goals. You could argue that Yaya won the FA Cup for City last season when he scored in the 1-0 win over United in the semi-final and scored again in the 1-0 win over Stoke in the final.
His record of scoring vital goals has continued this year when he recently scored a brace away at Villareal and scored what turned out to be the winning goal in the away 2-3 win at QPR.
Agreeably City have some superstars this year in the likes of Silva, Nasri, Aguero and Balotelli but I also feel that Yaya Toure should be classed as a crucial and valuable player to City as you know what you are going to get from him and he always gives 120% during a match.
