Berbat-off back to London?

He’s not enjoyed the best of seasons so far.

And that’s stark contrast to last campaign for poor Dimitar Berbatov, when the Bulgarian ended up the Premier League’s top-scorer.

The Manchester United front-man is not in manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s regular first-team line-up at Old Trafford, and has found himself restricted to League Cup and Champions League outings.

So perhaps rumours of a move away from the Red Devils in January aren’t too surprising.

Reports today state that the former Tottenham striker is being targeted by Fulham boss Martin Jol, ahead of a possible loan switch to the Cottagers when the transfer window re-opens next month.

Maybe this is what Berbatov needs, regular football at a team where he can arguably be the main man, and to get away from a place where he has never really been seen as the number one forward.

Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck are all ahead of the 30 year-old in the United pecking order and after enjoying one extremely successful spell in London with Spurs, a transfer back to the capital could appeal to the ex-Bayer Leverkusen man.

Paying his hefty wages may prove the stumbling block for Jol though, but if he can get some help from United on that front, Berbatov could prove to be a shrewd capture.

And then finally, the languid hit-man could finally re-capture the form that made him one of the most deadliest attackers in England.

Opposition defences won’t be hoping the same though.
