We’ve all experienced the buzz around the stadium when your team is awarded a free kick in a dangerous position, in hope that your chosen taker will make the ball explode off his foot into the gaping net.
Free kicks are such a vital part of football, they can be the difference in winning or losing a game but if you have a specialist who can beat the wall and keep it low enough to get the better of the keeper with one swift swing of a leg, then it is far more likely that it’s the former.
If the free kick is positioned a bit further out, then a whipped cross into the box to the head of a team-mate may be a more appropriate way to try and steal a goal.
There are all sorts of types of free kicks, whether it’s a David Beckham curler, a Roberto Carlos thunderbolt or a Zinedine Zidane-esque pass into the top corner, a goal from a free kick always seems that tad bit more special.
