Both sides have eight points from their opening four games and despite only one of these sides being tipped for the title, the battle at the Ethiad Stadium will be a close one, much like the two from last season, with both Manchester City and Arsenal securing 1-0 home wins.
I’m not here to talk about last year’s matches though, I’m going to recall the game Emmanuel Adebayor’s match of madness!
The game itself was a classic! Six goals, poor defending and a whole lot of drama!
Micah Richards and Robin Van Persie exchanged strikes to leave the game evenly balanced with 30 minutes remaining; however the then newly owned Manchester City took control of the game with three goals in the space of 10 minutes. Craig Bellamy made it 2-1 before Adebayor’s moment to silence the Arsenal fans who had given him stick during his spell at the Emirates.
Shaun Wright-Phillip’s cross was headed past Manuel Almunia by Adebayor, and to say he enjoyed the goal was the understatement of the season. The Togolese forward ran the whole length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the travelling away fans. Wright-Phillips and Tomas Rosicky completed the scoring with a goal for each side.
With the scores at 1-1 the clearly hyped-up Adebayor was given a reprieve as he clearly kicked out at Arsenal’s goalscorer Van Persie; however following the game the FA were quick to act on both this and the celebration incident, giving Adebayor a four match ban!
It’s fair to say Adebayor isn’t popular at neither the Emirates nor the City of Manchester Stadium two a bit years later, yet this game and the now Spurs’ forwards actions will always be remembered.
