Every few years, there is one player that comes along that has the capability of taking ones breath away. In a world of Cristiano Ronaldo’s and Lionel Messi’s, this one performer is, unfortunately, living in the shadow of the two giants of La Liga.

I am, of course, talking about Radamel Falcao. The Atletico Madrid striker has started off the season in stunning form, netting seven goals in 11 appearances for the Spanish capital side. However, the 26-year-old, regardless of his exploits, will forever be outshone by Ronaldo and Messi.

Many are of the opinion that the Colombia international needs to leave Spain in order to full establish himself in world football. Real Madrid are interested, but Atletico won’t sell to their rivals, while Barcelona insist they won’t move for Falcao.

When you look at the great players that have performed for teams outside the top two, Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Fernando Torres; the trio made the move to England and instantaneously endeared themselves to football fans with a number of impressive performances at Manchester City and Liverpool and Chelsea, respectively.

It is hardly surprising to see Falcao, nicknamed El Tigre, linked with a move to Manchester City and the Blues, the latter of which are well accustomed to his exploits have been on the receiving end of a hat-trick during the European Super Cup final in August.

Many believe £48m is excessive for a player, who has only performed in Portugal and Spain, but still, in his solitary season in the Champions League with FC Porto, mustered four goals in eight games. Falcao possesses all the attributes to make a name for himself in the Premiership.

The player himself even admitted the only reason he didn’t leave Atletico over the summer was down to no teams lodging a sufficient bid for his services. However, after his blistering start to the season, it won’t be long before teams are scrambling over themselves to land the hottest prospect in Spain outside of the top two.
