Liverpool’s goofy Uruguayan has been swarmed with controversy his entire career, but Luis Suarez has enforced himself as a hero to the locals in Merseyside since his transfer from Ajax in 2011.
Since the tricky-forward’s days in Holland, he has been known as a trouble maker, mainly because of an on-field scuffle with team-mate Albert Luque, and then in an incident which saw Suarez bite an opponent on their shoulder.
His unpopularity grew at the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, he blocked a shot on the line using his hands deep into stoppage time, which would have won the game for Ghana. After he was sent off, Ghana missed the penalty and Suarez’s celebration on the touch-line sparked uproar, and he has had the whole of Africa on his back ever since.
Since then, his 8 match ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra has seen Suarez’s villain status amplified, but he continues to wow spectators with his nifty footwork and creativity.
This video shows the talented side to the man we love to hate.
