Oscar’s goal was good, but nothing spectacular (Video)

Chelsea – Shakhtar Donetsk always promised to be something special. When the two teams met in Ukraine two weeks ago, the hosts on the evening wowed the watching world with their probing, passing game, while hassling the Blues at any given opportunity when they didn’t have the ball.

The encounter at Stamford Bridge proved to live up to the early hype after an enthralling 3-2 encounter between the two sides. A late Victor Moses header ensured Chelsea left Stamford Bridge with all three points that evening, especially with their grip on Group E appearing to fade.

Regardless of the result, it is midfielder Oscar that appears to be stealing the headlines. The Brazilian, signed from Internacional in the summer, has proven to be something of a hit with the fans following his debut earlier this season, with an impressive two goal haul from the 2-2 draw with Juventus from back in September.

The youngster was at it again on Wednesday night, this time capitalising on a poor Andriy Pyatov headed clearances which made it only as far as Oscar. He took the ball down with his chest before launching an impressive half volley into the bottom corner from 40 yards out.

Twitter went a little bit mental as a result of his strike, but while it was a good goal; it has no right to be placed within the ‘Golazo’ category of super strikes. When compared to Dejan Stankovic’s long range effort for Inter Milan against FC Schalke 04 from 2011, the impressiveness of Oscar’s strike in fact dwindles.

Nevertheless, the fact fans are claiming it wasn’t *that* good a goal is a testament to the players capabilities, with some suggesting that they would’ve been disgruntled had he not scored. For that reason, Oscar’s goal will always be good, but never that good.
