It takes a huge amount of bravery or madness to stand up to a man with a gun in your face, as a couple of Italian muggers recently discovered.
Juventus and Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci was reportedly with his wife and three-month-old son at a Ferrari dealership in Turin when he was approached by a masked man who was eyeing up his expensive watch. After pointing a gun at Bonucci and demanding that he hand it over, the 6ft 3in centre half allegedly punched the mugger in the face before chasing him down the street. The attempted robbery gone wrong, the man embarrassingly fled the scene on the back of an accomplice’s moped, screaming in shock as Bonucci ruined his plan.
Protecting Juventus’ backline as they went unbeaten in Serie A to win the title and then guiding Italy to the final of Euro 2012, Bonucci had already proven his toughness to the world.
Perhaps the red-faced mugger will do his research the next time he wants to pick on a footballer. That’s if he hasn’t decided to retire from his criminal ways after Bonucci’s right hook.
