Taarabt isn’t the man United need (Video)

With over a month to go until the transfer window re-opens, the silly season of rumours has already begun. The latest has seen Queen’s Park Rangers midfielder Adel Taarabt linked with a move to Manchester United once January rolls around.

With a new manager instilled, naturally players will come and go. With Harry Redknapp at the R’s helm, a host of current and ex-Tottenham Hotspur stars have been linked with moves to and from Loftus Road.

One of those is Taarabt. The Moroccan was sold by Redknapp during their respective stints at White Hart Lane and despite coming close to leaving QPR over the previous three transfer windows, has emerged as a key member of the R’s squad in recent months.

Taarabt put in a solid display during the West London sides recent defeat to United, but hardly set the world alight. Nevertheless, reports suggest the 12-time Premier League champions are interested in bringing the player, once dubbed ‘the new Zidane’, to Old Trafford.

If that is the case, then manager Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to bring in the wrong type of player. United need to bolster their ranks with robust, combative midfielder, not a flair one that would look good going forward.

His acquisition would leave United particularly top heavy and fail to give the side the necessary cover in the midfield. So while Taarabt may be a good signing, he certainly wouldn’t be the one the Premier League giants necessarily need.
