Denied Grant reports aren’t a surprise

With Peep Show failing to live up to early expectations, I need another form of entertainment to give me my Sunday night giggles. Then came the breaking story from a well known newspaper – Chelsea were reportedly set to call in Avram Grant to somehow steady a sinking ship.

Needless to say I sunk to my knees, put my head in my hands and began to uncontrollably laugh. I mean, the thought of Grant and Rafael Benitez working together, the former of which in an advisable role, is just too much to comprehend.

Granted, things at Stamford Bridge aren’t exactly ideal – no win in seven Premiership games has seen Chelsea lose pace on the Manchester duo currently leading the league – but, bringing Grant back in would be one of the daftest decisions Roman Abramovich has made since taking over the club in 2003.

Therefore, it was no surprise to hear Chelsea deny any reports that were doing the rounds of Roman placing a desperate plea to the former West Ham United and Portsmouth boss. If anyone is to shake the Blues out of the current rut the find themselves in, the man who took two teams down to the Championship isn’t the one to turn around the fortunes.

A no goer from the word off, but one that made me chuckle on a wet and windy Sunday night. Either way, just leave Benitez to get on with the job at hand. He’ll turn it around, given time, starting with Champions League encounter with Nordsjaelland on Wednesday.
