With December now upon us, the transfer silly season has really begun to come around once again. ‘Tis the season to be jolly’ the say ‘and what is more jolly that a transfer rumours linking Athletic Bilbao midfielder Oscar de Marcos to Manchester United?’.
Yes, as the January transfer window edges closer and closer towards us football fans, it has seen another emerging talent linked with a move to the Premiership. De Marcos, as many a United fan will know, really shot to prominence during the Europa League tie between the two sides last year, the 23-year-old netting in both legs to knock the Premier League outfit out at the last 16 stage.
Those performances would’ve attracted the 12-time Premiership champions to the Spaniard, while it has been confirmed that Martin Ferguson, a member of the United scouting team, was in attendance to watch Athletic’s 5-1 humbling at the hands of Barcelona on Saturday night.
Should United indeed move for De Marcos, they’ll be getting their hands on a player that can effectively play anywhere across the midfield. While the youngster would be an astute acquisition, the Manchester giants still need a midfielder that will break up play, not one that will make a fine wingback and push forward to support the strikers, unless they’re looking at the Spaniard as a replacement for Patrice Evra.
