There is nothing better than seeing a Football Manager gem live up to potential. A player you found on the game finally make it big in the big, bad world of football. One of those was Liverpool target Ron-Robert Zieler.
The young Germany international is being linked with a move to Anfield following numerous erratic displays by current number one Pepe Reina. The Spaniard himself has in fact been mooted with a possible switch to North London giants Arsenal.
Formerly of Manchester United, a past that will unlikely go down well with the Reds faithful, Zieler failed to really shine during his five years with the 12-time Premier League champions. The potential was always there – ask any Football Manager addict and they will echo this sentiment.
A return to Germany was always on the cards and after a successful stint with Hannover 96 II, the 23-year-old finally made his debut for the first-team and hasn’t looked back since. Now the club’s out-and-out number one, Zieler has again shot to prominence.
With it, interest has risen in the youngster. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers appears to be undecided on the future of Reina, often giving deputy Brad Jones the chance to impress at the expense of the Spain international, but to no avail.
However, it may not be long before there is a new goalkeeper in between the sticks at Anfield. With Rodgers thought to be watching both Zieler and Birmingham City startlet Jack Butland, the experience of the former is likely to stand him in good stead, even if he did used to play for their bitter rivals United.
