With Lionel Messi closing in on the record for most goals scored in a calendar year (he went off injured on Wednesday night ohhh drama!) , I think that this is as good as time as any to have a little appreciation for the man who holds the record.
Yes, that’s right, Gerd Muller.
If you think Messi and Ronaldo are goal machines then let me tell you, Muller was pretty bloody prolific in his day, too.
Anyway, Messi will probably break the record (or will he? ohhh drama!) but the fact that Muller’s achievement has stood this long is phenomenal and illustrates the fact that he is the best goalscorer to have ever lived.
His overall goalscoring record at Bayern Munich stands at 398 in 453 appearances which is unbelievable. Sit back and appreciate a master.
