Every now and again, a player comes along whose footballing capability takes my breath away. Be it through the ability to beat a man with the drop of a shoulder, one to net 30 or so goals a season or a player that can bring the ball down from a 60 yard pass with simplicity.
However, there is one player that simply eclipses the likes of Edinson Cavani and David Ginola – that man is the Divine Beard, Andrea Pirlo. The Juventus star was absolutely pivotal during the Bianconeri’s recent Scudetto win and looks set to be heavily involved in their pursuit to secure Serie A glory again this year.
Furthermore, the 33-year-old has been the creative hub in Antonio Conte’s starting XI in their return to the Champions League, while playing a key role in Italy’s route to the Euro 2012 final, eventually succumbing to a 4-0 to Spain.
Pirlo continuously impresses for the Old Lady, with the player himself getting better as he ages. His range of passing and technical capability has won the admirers of all those in the game and he can consider himself unlucky to have not been included in the FIFPro World XI of the Year, despite his Ballon d’Or nomination.
And if that wasn’t good enough for any fan still to be convinced by Pirlo, he has quite possibly the greatest beard in football and one that rivals Chuck Norris.
