Ryan Nelsen on the move

Well it all appears to be happening at Queens Park Rangers today…  according to BBC Sport Ryan Nelsen has been named as the new manager of Toronto FC in the MLS.

Nelsen played for Major League Soccer side DC United for four seasons before he moved to the Premier League in 2005, so he has the experience of the game out there.

Keen to fix on his next position before he’s finished his current one, Nelsen has tied up the deal and hopes to be on his way to begin the MLS season at the start of March. However he was so keen, he appears to have forgotten that the Premier League season doesn’t finish until May and his current contract doesn’t expire until June 30th

Nelsen has become a key part of QPR’s defence with twenty-one appearances for the west London side since he arrived, but with QPR in as perilous a position as they are, he may have to buy Harry Redknapp a very large birthday present if he is to persuade him to let him leave early, or perhaps attempt to coax someone else to the club to fill in for him.

Nelsen will be going into his new position of manager without any previous managerial experience and will be straight into the deep end trying to improve on Toronto’s league position last year of bottom of the Eastern Conference.

I’m sure he’ll be desperate to be at the MLS SuperDraft (what an exciting and not at all over-hyped event that sounds like) but with it falling on January 17th it may come a little to soon for him, however given this statement by the club’s General Manager Kevin Payne I’m sure things will be ok without him.

Good luck Ryan, you might need it if you’re going to understand what he’s talking about.
