Wesley Sneijder: A talent wasted (Video)

The longest running transfer saga of the season finally came to an abrupt end late on Sunday evening after Wesley Sneijder finally completed his long awaited move to Turkish giants Galatasaray, regardless of interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

The Dutchman has been linked with a move to the Premiership after falling out with Inter Milan officials and finding himself on the peripherals of the first team under Andrea Stramaccion, but it’s now the Super Lig where he’ll be plying his trade.

And, regardless of the stature of Galatasaray in the world of football, Sneijder’s move to Turkey is nothing more than an cataclysmic waste of his natural footballing talent. Two-and-a-half years ago, the mercurial schemer all but single handedly dragged Holland to the final of World Cup, eventually succumbing to defeat following Andres Iniesta’s extra time winner for Spain.

At just 28 years of age, there is still plenty of creative life in the former Ajax trainee and many wouldn’t have denied him the opportunity to ply his trade in the Premier League following stints in La Liga and Serie A.

Nevertheless, the Sari-Kirmizililar were the team that snared Sneijder and it’s a huge coup, it has to be said. Yet, one is under the impression that a move to England, following interest from Spurs and Liverpool, would’ve been an apt test for him before one final move to a big spending European outfit.
