Dutch midfielders appear to be the most in demand in football at present. While Leroy Fer’s move to Everton failed to materialise before the close of the transfer window, despite reports suggesting a deal was close to completion, he remains one of the more highly rated stars to emanate from the Netherlands.
However, he isn’t just the only one attracting interest from across the continent, with Kevin Strootman, Jordy Clasie and Marco van Ginkel all thought to have won a number of potential suitors from a number of Europe’s heavyweights.
Amongst the aforementioned quartet is also AZ Alkmaar youngster Adam Maher. The 19-year-old has been mooted with a big money move from the Eredivisie side in recent months following a series of stunning performances for The Cheese Farmers, in which the midfielder has scored six and assisted five in 22 appearances in all competitions this season.
Reports have suggested Arsenal as a possible destination for Maher, only for the player to deny the suggestion of move for the young Dutchman. With AZ manager Gertjian Verbeek slapping a reported £8.5m price tag on the head of the youngster to ward of potential suitors, there remain a number of teams able to meet the asking price of the midfielder.
With the youngster admitting he’s prepared to leave for pastures new at the end of the campaign, but is only prepared to remain in Holland, it is unlikely to deter potential suitors from England, especially Arsenal who are thought to be readying a move for the AZ starlet.
