Brentford F.C in a European competition?
Sounds unlikely but once upon a time it did happen in the Anglo-Italian Cup, a tournament for lower league teams from England and Italy which, quite frankly, sounds like a great idea.
Unfortunately, the Anglo-Italian Cup did not last. The tournament was abandoned in 1996 because clubs could not agree on dates for fixtures and increasing violence at matches.
A shame, yes, but it did throw up some interesting fixtures such as this one from 1992 where Brentford travelled to Italy to take on Cesena.
