Talk about a bargain.
Henrik Larsson joined Celtic in 1997 from Dutch club FC Feyernood and went on to become the illustrious club’s third highest goalscorer. Not bad for the fee of £650,000.
Larsson went on to join Barcelona and in his final game for the club he provided two assists which helped the Catalan club beat Arsenalin the Champions League final in 2006.
He also made over 100 appearances for Sweden and will forever be considered a legend at Celtic where he won four league titles and numerous other individual accolades.
His pace, movement and vision made Larsson a very dangerous striker but many consider him to be one of the most intelligent players to have ever graced the football pitch.
The Swedish striker even made it to the Premier League as he joined Manchester United on loan for three months in 2007, scoring three times in 13 appearances.
Sir Alex Ferguson had nothing but praise for Larsson: “He’s been fantastic for us, his professionalism, his attitude, everything he’s done has been excellent for us.”
Here is a tribute video to the great man who scored a remarkable 242 goals in 315 games for the Bhoys and remains one of the finest strikers of his generation.
