When Liverpool signed Fabio Borini over the summer, fans were inexplicably excited about the arrival of the Italian. The striker had enjoyed a prolific spell under manager Brendan Rodgers during their time together with Swansea City, where the 21-year-old netting six goals in 12 games to aid in the Swans’ promotion push, before moving to AS Roma.
After the Serie A side secured the full rights to Borini, the Reds moved for him over the summer and following the sale of Dirk Kuyt and loan move of Andy Carroll to West Ham United; it was viewed as a good signing for the Merseyside club.
Having scored his first goal during the Europa League win over FC Gomel at Anfield, fans were excited about what was to come from the 21-year-old. However, Borini was then sidelined for three months after suffering a broken foot during the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United back in September.
Making his comeback last month, it has since been confirmed that the Italian will miss the remainder of the season after dislocating his shoulder during the 5-0 win over Swansea City on Sunday.
It’s another huge blow to Borini, who had been expected to lead the Liverpool frontline this season, regardless of the exploits of Luis Suarez. However, with the signing of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho, to an extent, adding to the competition, the young striker will have to work hard over pre-season to convince Rodgers that he’s worthy of a starting spot once again.
