I know, I know he’s not my cup of tea either.
The diving, the handballing, the racism, the constant moaning and even that silly celebration where he kisses his wrist; there’s a lot not to like about Luis Suarez.
But any football fan, no matter what club you support, cannot deny that the Uruguayan magician is an outstanding football player.
Having gone a goal down to Zenit St Petersburg at home last night, Liverpool were left needing to score four goals in order to progress through to the next round of the Europa League.
It was an extremely tall order, even at Anfield, and they almost pulled it off but just couldn’t find the final goal to clinch it.
Liverpool can thank Suarez’s excellent performance that they were even in with a shout. He scored two free kicks, the second of which was of such high quality that you will struggle to find a better one scored this season.
He was a constant menace, too, and the desire he showed to bring Liverpool out of the mess they had created was admirable.
I imagine that Liverpool fans wake up in a cold sweat when they think about what would happen were Suarez to pick up a serious injury. His 25 goals have rescued Liverpool’s season and his free kick against Zenit is the pick of the bunch.
