I had almost forgotten about Sulley Muntari until he popped up and score AC Milan’s second goal against Barcelona in their Champions League clash on Wednesday.
It was a neat goal, too, with a very nice assist from Stephan El-Shaarawy and an excellent finish from the Ghana international. As an aside: how ridiculous is Stephan El-Shaarawy’s hair? Completely.
Anyway, I remember when Muntari used to play for Portsmouth and he used to pull off some spectacular skill on the ball and throw in the occasional wonder goal. This is when Portsmouth were playing the Premier League and they had a pretty decent squad.
There was Muntari, along with Benjani and Sol Campbell and, of course, Papa Bouba Diop whose brilliant nickname ‘The Wardrobe’ was designed to strike fear into the hearts of opposing teams.
This isn’t a video about how good Pompey used to be, though, it a video of one of Muntari’s finest goals for Portsmouth in an away game against Aston Villa.
Obviously brimming with confidence at the time, as were team being 3-0 up, Muntari has the audacity to knock it through the defender’s legs and then stroke a glorious finish from 30-yards out with the outside of his boot. Sumptuous.
