Over the last 24 months, Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski has emerged as one of football’s hottest talents. The Poland international shone for his nation at Euro 2012 and on a domestic and continental front; he continues to see his stock rise significantly as a result of his stellar performances.
It’s no surprise that a number of Europe’s bigger teams have shown an interest in Lewandowski, with his exploits in front of goal a testament to his ability to lead the frontline to the highest standard.
Manchester United were supposedly leading the race to sign the 24-year-old, but appear to have been pipped by Bayern Munich to his signature. The current Bundesliga pace-setters, with Pep Guardiola set to take over in July, are in need of another striker, regardless of the exploits of Mario Mandzukic and Mario Gomez.
Granted, the former has been in fine form this season, while the latter is an impressive stand in if necessary, but neither can compare to Lewandowski, who it has to be said is one of the games more dangerous strikers when firing on all cylinders. With Guardiola’s Bayern going to be in need of a focal point, much like Barcelona were with Lionel Messi, there is no finer striker to have potentially acquired than the powerful Dortmund man.
