I didn’t know that Luis Figo had hit such hard times that he had to resort to doing adverts for a well know men’s hair dye brand.
Let’s be honest, the adverts are absolutely diabolical, but the same can’t be said for the man himself and his fantastic playing career.
One of the few to make the controversial switch from Barcelona to arch rivals Real Madrid, Figo made over 100 appearances for both clubs and another 100 for Inter where he finished his career. Keeping with the theme of a century of appearances, Figo also did the same for his country, Portugal.
And Figo wasn’t just fussing about the greys in on his head during his time at these great clubs, he was also busy winning lots of trophies.
The victory roll is impressive: four La Liga titles, two Spanish Cups, three Spanish Super Cups, four Serie A titles, one Italian cup and a Champions League winners’ medal.
Not too shabby eh? Figo played as an attacking midfielder and was instrumental in breaking defences down with penetrating runs and passes which dissected numerous back fours. He also chipped in with the goal or two and was a natural leader and captain.
And you thought he was all about the hair dye?
