The rumour linking Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao to Manchester United this summer has picked up pace since the beginning of the week.
Skybet have recently dropped their odds from 11/1 to 2/1 that Falcao is poised to join the Premier League champions elect at the end of the season with strong reports that Sir Alex Ferguson has elected to put a deposit on the striker, similar to the deal that was worked out with Atletico for current United goalkeeper David De Gea.
It is believed that Manchester United scouts flew to Madrid last weekend to take in Falcao’s performance against Granada in which he bagged a brace, adding to his already impressive season tally of 24 La Liga goals.
Should the Colombian international opt to join United this summer, the future of several of their current forwards, with the exclusion of Robin Van Persie, would appear to be uncertain.
Speculation persists that Wayne Rooney may be lured across the English Channel to PSG with a multi-million euro contract whereas it is believed that Javier Hernandez, who has been largely out of favour at Old Trafford this year, may be used as makeweight in the deal to bring Falcao to Manchester. Danny Wellbeck appears to be in his manager’s plans at present as the young English striker has recently been picked for several high profile games by Sir Alex Ferguson.
It is understood that Falcao has a £47million release clause in his contract at Atletico Madrid and United will surely have to meet this fee if they wish to secure the prolific striker’s services as several major European clubs – including Chelsea and Manchester City – are also believed to be highly interested in the player.
