Mauro Icardi poised for Inter switch (video)

According to press reports in Italy, Inter look set to bolster their attack this summer with the signing of 20 year old Sampdoria striker Mauro Icardi.

Mauro Icardi has risen to prominence in Serie A this season after a series of impressive performances for the Genoan based side. Hailing from the famous La Masia academy in Barcelona, the young Argentinean attacker departed for Italy in 2011 after fearing for first team opportunities at the Nou Camp.

Only this season has Icardi made a breakthrough in the Sampdoria starting eleven, making 27 League appearances and scoring 9 goals. 4 of these goals came in a 6-0 hammering of Pescara in January of this year, putting Icardi on the map of potential suitors for his services this summer. Napoli are believed to have had a 12.5million Euro offer rejected in January, with Sampdoria demanding a greater offer for their young forward.

Inter, who have only picked up 5 victories in their last 17 outings have been greatly hampered by their lack of striking options this year, especially after an injury to first choice striker Diego Milito in February ruled him out for the rest of the season.

Several Premier League clubs are also rumoured to be monitoring Icardi with a view to his potential recruitment at the close of the season with Manchester City said to have been considering bidding for the youngster.

However, it is believed that Inter are close to capturing Icardi’s signature in a much needed move to add greater firepower and depth to their limp attacking options.
