20 year old striker Jack McInerney leads the Major League Soccer scoring charts with 6 goals from the opening 7 games of the season.

The Philadelphia Union forward is competing in his 4th full MLS Season and is already close to eclipsing last season’s tally of 8 goals. The Union currently lie in a finals position in the Eastern Conference with McInerney having contributed to 7 of their 10 goals so far this term.

With Philadelphia, McInerney plays alongside US internationals Conor Casey and Chris Albright and the young attacker will be hoping that his recent form has impressed Jurgen Klinsmann enough to earn a place alongside his club team-mates in the senior national setup.

Jack McInerney has previously represented USA for the Under 17, Under 21 and Under 23 national sides and should he continue to impress domestically a call up to the A team would appear to be imminent.

However, Jurgen Klinsmann has opted to recruit ‘nationalised’ Americans for the US World Cup Qualification campaign as opposed to home grown talent and as a result McInerney’s route to the senior team may be blocked.

With the World Cup in Brazil fast approaching, McInerney may opt to depart for European shores this summer to demonstrate to Klinnsman that he can perform on a greater stage.
