Some of the biggest and best disallowed goals. (Video)

The number one footballing pub discussion in recent times has been that of “That was miles over the line! That linesman wants shooting!” The Premier League will be putting that particular debate to bed for the 2013/14 season with the introduction of the Hawk-Eye system. It is therefore a good time to look back at some memorable disallowed goals.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer against Middlesbrough is one of the many daring strikers who have taken the Barca pressing game to a whole new level. The look of disappointment at his booking was a sight to behold.

George Best did the same back in 1971 against England, in typically flamboyant style. A lovely watch.

Leigh Griffiths had this one chalked off against Hearts for Hibernian in the Edinburgh derby last month – he and the rest of the SPL will be looking enviously down south.

The best of the bunch is from Cristiano Ronaldo – no surprises there. I wouldn’t like to be Nani after that match though. The daggers from Ronnie would hurt.

The introduction of Hawk-Eye is one that will certainly limit such debate to examples like Best and Solskjaer, or the lower leagues for goal-line disputes. But I think we can all agree – to have more certainty can only benefit the Premier League.
