Hilarious own goal bloopers – The best of (video)

We all love a good comical own goal, unless the guilty party is from our own team, and even then we can laugh about it eventually. Frank Sinclair once scored two own-goals in consecutive weekends, and Richard Dunne too is a prolific scorer, with nine in his own net. Here’s a collection of some of the best worldwide howlers.

This marvel by Inigo Martinez for Spain Under-21s against Georgia was rather impressive. To find the net from that distance with a backheel is something out of the playbook of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Women’s football has thrown up a fantastic own goal here. This one was from a Costa Rica player against Canada. The defender credited with the own goal should not actually be blamed. The keeper has endured the inevitable ‘get back in the kitchen’ backlash after her fairly shoddy attempt at controlling a routine backpass.

Arsenal right-back Lauren gave a worryingly accurate impression of a striker here. Just look at that finish. In fairness, Arsene Wenger turned Thierry Henry from a left-winger into the best striker in the world, so it was worth a shot.

This beauty by Chris Brass was probably sore as well as embarassing. A rocket of a volley into his own nose, straight past his own Bury keeper, against Darlington. The poor man.

It remains to be seen whether Richard Dunne’s record will be broken, and while he is still playing it cannot be ruled out that he may even add to the nine already scored. Aston Villa fans will hope they are mathematically safe before he starts rediscovering his own-goalscoring touch.
