Liverpool star set to stay at club after months of speculation

With his career at Liverpool being thrown up in the air this season, Martin Skrtel lost his place in the side to Jamie Carragher, but, Brendan Rodgers has reinstated that he still apart of the long-term future of Anfield.

With only one start since their defeat to Manchester United in January, the 28-year-old Slovakian has lost his place to a 35 year old Jamie Carragher, who is set to retire at the end of the season. But is it because of the retirement of the ex-England international that’s why Rodgers is keen to hold onto him? I think so, and with it seemingly more likely that Liverpool will stop their massive splashing of cash phases they go through and frugality will be paramount and holding onto players will be key.

Rodgers has said to the media that Skrtel has reacted well to the position he has adopted in the squad and is happy to play a part when needed. Although, he is captain of his country and with next year being a World Cup year, he will want to play football. I can see after Carragher’s retirement, Skrtel will be welcomed back into the starting XI alongside Daniel Agger, and Coates would be the backup centre back.
