Courtois seeks more time at Athletico

Since his extended stay at Athletico as the on loan ‘keeper gains vital match experience, the young Belgian number 1 wants even more time at the La Liga club to continue his already fine progress.
Courtois’ initial loan deal started in 2011 after Chelsea purchased him from Racing Genk and obviously would not replace Petr Cech…yet. So instead of just collecting rust on the bench of Chelsea, he has taken the incentive of being a number 1 for the 3 best club in Spain, and if that’s not healthy for his future career at Chelsea, then I don’t know what is.
With Athletico in the Champions League next year, Courtois’ footballing education is increasing at a dramatic rate and when Cech inevitably retires, he will be a ready replacement for the Czech Republic number 1. With a seemingly likely youth impetus now implied on the Chelsea squad, he will slot straight In when he feels the time is right.
Courtois seems to be a switched on footballer and understands he would risk his spot in the Belgian squad and with a World Cup coming up, Chelsea’s substitute bench doesn’t appeal to him. With a Copa Del Ray winners medal this year and 19 clean sheets in 35 games, it’s quite frightening considering Cech seems to have rediscovered his imperious form which some thought was gone and Courtois has the potential to be that and more if he carries on the way he is. Expect him to be invaluable and off limits to other suitors of his signature, and it’s not like Chelsea do not have the ambition and financial backing to keep ahold of him.
