As fans of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund begin to descend on Wembley the excitement surrounding this year’s eagerly anticipated Champions League final grows.
It will be a fascinating match up between two special teams. In the red corner we have Bayern Munich; having been scorned from finals past now they are now more determined than ever to claim Europe’s top prize and as they aim to complete a fantastic treble.
In the yellow corner, the people’s choice, Borussia Dortmund and their famed yellow wall. Dortmund, and their enigmatic coach Jurgen Klopp, displayed in the group stages that they were serious contenders to win this competition and after a miraculous win against Malaga followed by a resounding win over Real Madrid they will feel that this is their year.
This final is set up perfectly. First and second in the Bundesliga, rivals who have shared dominated German football for the last two years. Munich’s mission of destiny squared up against Dortmund’s magical journey. This is what you want from a final; absorbing drama, enticing sub-plots and, at the core, two extremely good football teams.
Bayern most like get the edge due to their total dominance of Barcelona in the semi-finals but Dortmund’s dismantling of Real Madrid was nearly as impressive.
For us neutrals it will be enthralling stuff and a fitting end to a fine season.
