Should Jose Mourinho Give Chelsea Striker A Chance?

Jose Mourinho takes over at Chelsea with a lot of big decisions to make, the main one being who he should play up front. This season, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba have shared striking responsibilities with mixed success. There is a strong case for Belgian Romelu Lukaku to be given his chance at Stamford Bridge after impressing out on loan at West Brom. The answer to the striker crisis at Chelsea could be a lot closer to home than people think.

In 2012-13, Lukaku was the highest scoring under-21 player in the Premier League with a mighty 17 goals as West Brom finished in 8th place. The potential he has been showing this season is clear for all to see. The young Belgian is sure to be a force in the coming years and Chelsea will be very glad to have him on their books despite Lukaku’s poor first season at the Bridge in which he didn’t really get an opportunity to play regularly.

With Mourinho coming in, he will surely spot the potential Lukaku has much like he did at Real Madrid with Raphael Varane.

Lukaku is a huge physical specimen for one so young and has been compared to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba for years. He also possesses a huge amount of pace and strength which means that he is a real handful for defences. This season, he has proved to have so much more than a fine physique. He has a shooting accuracy of 66% with 52 of his shots hitting the target out of 79. That is amongst the best in the whole league and if he keeps it up with players like Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Oscar playing behind him, he can be the league’s top scorer next season. He is that good.

Mourinho has to give the young Belgian a chance to prove himself with regular football next season. Forget signing Cavani, forget signing Ibrahimovic and forget standing by Fernando Torres. Give Romelu Lukaku the chance he deserves, Jose.
