Yohan Cabaye admits he admires the AS Monaco “project”

The Newcastle midfielder has admitted he is intrigued by the constant linking with him to newly promoted and newly moneyed AS Monaco in Ligue 1.

In my Yohan Cabaye has had a pretty poor season for Newcastle who admittedly didn’t have exactly a good season as a whole after flirting with relegation for a while and finished the season just above the relegation zone a week before the end of the season. With a reported £23 million bid for the French international midfielder from Monaco being later rubbished by the Newcastle club was in the mill over the last couple of days but SkyBET have just suspended betting on the Frenchman joining the champions of Ligue 2 last season.

With Monaco’s spending already over £100 million and the window has only been open about a month, they have definitely flexed their spending capabilities and it’s always going to interest a player when they’re linked, it’s like they want to earn as much as possible!

Cabaye was reportedly upset with finishing five places above relegation in contrast to them finishing five places the season before and has openly said he wouldn’t mind leaving the Tyneside club and has been linked with a move back to France with PSG as well.  But the new director of football Joe Kinnear, the man who managed to swear fifty two times in a five minute interview has reiterated the need to hold onto their star players, with Papiss Cisse and Hatem Ben Arfa continually linked with moves to other European clubs.

It could be a difficult off season for Newcastle because they’re not going to be in the Europa League and unless they recruit some quality to build a squad, they might even struggle again next season. I like Newcastle and admire what Alan Pardew has built in recent years and I hope it isn’t plucked apart by bigger teams.
