Feeding off my second article from Thursday, where I listed who I wanted Arsenal to spend £100 million on, I thought I might explain further some of my choices, perhaps, surprise inclusions. Kevin Grosskeus was probably one of those players, but hopefully by the end of this piece you will understand why he could be such a useful player for most top teams in Europe including Arsenal.
Basically, what makes this player so important for his current club, Borussia Dortmund, is that he is incredibly versatile. Possibly one of the versatile players in Europe. Last season, for example, he played in five different positions on more than one occasion.
He played left wing (his main position), central midfield, right wing, left-back and right-back. In fact, this season Grosskreutz has played right back in all his games so far despite being a left midfielder. Now that, to me, proves how versatile he is. An incredible weapon to have in your side. With Arsenal experiencing the effects of an extremely thin squad, he’d be a fantastic signing as he can cover five positions and the north London club need versatility more than anything.
More points in his favour include his age, price, experience, injury record and dedication. He’s recently turned 25 years of age, which means he still has his best years ahead of him. His estimated worth is a low £6-£7 million which makes him a bargain at that price. As he’s been at Dortmund for a majority of his professional career he has experience at the top of his profession which is quite hard to find unless you’re splashing £30,£40, £50+ million.
He has a pretty clean injury record too – only a couple this season and couple more back in 2010 to date. Finally, his dedication is pretty intense.
He’s the type of player that will run through brick walls for you. He’s a player I would definitely want at Arsenal. Talented, versatile and cheap – the only things I’m really interested in at the moment.
