Just what Manchester United fans wanted to hear after Arsenal signed Mesut Ozil, supposedly from under their noses – Nani has signed a new five-year deal at Old Trafford. Yes, you read that correctly. The man who Sir Alex Ferguson played in just three full games last season has signed a contract to keep him at the club until 2018, according to BBC.
Nani made 11 Premier League appearances all in all last term, scoring just once. He made 11 chances for his team-mates but was never granted a proper run in the team under Fergie.
Just 31% of his shots hit the target, just 79% of his passes reached their target and he made a defensive error despite hardly being on the pitch.
With Wilfried Zaha signing in the summer for a reported huge amount of money some smelt the end of Nani, especially as Moyes has Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young at his disposal, not to mention Shinji Kagawa who can play across the front three yet is rusting in the background.
The Portuguese winger has one hell of a strike on him, and can even perform a step over to great efficiency, but come on, David – five years?!
He has so far played 28 minutes this season, coming on as a substitute against Liverpool, and tested Simon Mignolet with his sole shot at goal.
I didn’t see this coming at all, and I’m sure many others didn’t either – but who are we to judge David Moyes?
It won’t stop me doing it, mind.
