Chelsea Watching Ross Barkley – 3 Reasons Why The Move Would Be A Good One

Jose Mourinho’s midfield options right now are incredible. As well as the huge roster of talent in the attacking roles, the Portuguese coach has the likes of Jon Obi Mikel, Michael Essien, Frank Lampard and Ramires who can operate in the holding role. However, the Daily Mail are reporting that the Blues are watching Everton’s Ross Barkley, so here’s why I think it would be a good move in three easy steps.

1) The Future

Barkley looks like an incredible prospect and is likely to be a key member of the England side for many years to come. If it wasn’t for injury then the 19-year-old would have been in this sort of form a year earlier, but as it is he’s flourishing this season. He’s a perfect replacement for Frank Lampard.

2) Replacement

Following on from that, if Barkley continues his fine form then I can see a bid going in around January. It’s unlikely that either Essien or Mikel have a long term future at the Bridge, and Lampard looks as though he’s not got a great deal left to play, so to stick the Everton man in would be replacing those around him.

3) Three Lions on his shirt

Well, that’s what everyone wants, isn’t it? The talk of how England’s academy are in need of a revamp and English players should be given a chance has smothered us all. It is a problem, you only have to look at the national team’s success over the last 20 years, and although Barkley was allowed to play for Nigeria, he participated in the recent World Cup Qualifier against Moldova.

Get him in, Jose.
