A stunning goal on your league debut is one of the best ways to win over your new fans, something which Willian obviously realised as he entered the pitch for Chelsea at Carrow Road.
Within five minutes of coming on from the bench the Brazilian had scored Jose Mourinho’s side’s third goal of the game against Norwich, wrapping up three points that had seemed unlikely to be going Chelsea’s way after Anthony Pilkington’s second-half equaliser.
The Blues first regained the lead late on with a goal from another substitute Eden Hazard, whose 86th minute right-footed shot flew past John Ruddy and into the net. Just over 60 seconds later it was Willian’s turn to amaze, as the winger went one better by scoring a spectacular strike on his weaker left foot.
A £30 million price tag may seem a lot for a player who has spent most of his career so far in Ukraine with Shakhtar Donetsk, but the 25-year-old Brazilian has already provided a glimpse of the brilliance that made him such a stand-out performer in Eastern Europe.
With a remaining 31 Premier League games, there is plenty of football left to be played for Chelsea this season, not to mention the Champions League, FA Cup and Capital One Cup all still being within their grasp. Willian will look to make his mark whenever he is given an opportunity, but a place in the Blues’ starting lineup is difficult to maintain.
Does the forward have what it takes to become a regular for Jose Mourinho’s side?
