3 things more interesting than Jack Wilshere’s comments

It is a sign of the international break that the media are getting all excited over some vaguely inoffensive comments made by Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere about English players playing for England.

OK, I’m paraphrased a little there but, honestly, what is the big fuss all about? Now cricketers are getting involved and there is a twitter row and we all love a twitter row eh? What is needed here is some perspective; the debate is a very complex one and Wilshere was merely asked a question regarding his thoughts on the matter, which he duly provided, and now everybody is in uproar. Madness.

Anyway, here are three things that are for more interesting than getting all hot and bothered about Jack Wilshere’s comments:

1. Jack Wilshere’s facial hair

I suppose it is only right that we start with the man of the moment and his sorry attempt at a beard. At 21, the facial hair isn’t quite right for Wilshere yet so somebody close to the young man ought to advise him against such decisions. You can certainly see that he has put the work in at the gym and added numerous tattoos to his body but the beard doesn’t quite cut it.

Still, it is a far cry from this little lad.

2. Paul Gascoigne in Italy

I was a little too young to remember when Gazza fever took over Italy following his move to Lazio (heh) in 1992 but this clip from Gazetta Football Italia (GOOOOALLLLLL LAZZZIOOOOO) featuring a very young James Richardson provides a taste of the kind of star power Gascoigne had.

Unfortunately, injuries blighted his time in Italy and it didn’t really work out but the opening segment from this clip shows undeniable comic genius and timing.

3. Being a coach in Bulgaria

I don’t know too much about domestic in football in Bulgaria but I do know it would not be wise, in any country, to let slip that you have allegiances to the main rival football club to the one that you are now a manager of.

The result? Well, take a look at for yourself. It is safe to say, though, that Levski Sofia fans were not happy with the appointment of Ivaylo Petev.
