Arsenal and Liverpool linked with £30m 18 goal striker – but is he worth it?

As well as Arsenal are doing right now, they are still short in some areas of the pitch. While the defence could do with a freshen up, with Laurent Koscielny’s season starting poorly, most are asking for Arsene Wenger to use whatever he has left in the kitty to bring in some extra firepower. The Express are reporting that it may happen, and the striker that the club are looking at is £30m rated Michu.

How many times have we heard how much the Spaniard cost the Swans last year? The usual response to a transfer fee be revealed was “how much?! You could’ve bought five million Michus with that.”

But is he worth the huge amount of money being touted? Liverpool seem to be in the frame also, although he doesn’t fit the normal description of a Brendan Rodgers forward. Rather than being small and nimble who holds the ability to interchange at will, Michu is a powerful player with a real eye for goal.

Last season he scored 18 goals in 35 appearances in what was his debut season in the Premier League, and also created 34 chances.

This season he has already created 16 chances in seven games, as well as scoring twice, and he’s also tucked away a goal in the Europa League.

Michu is a fine player and would prove a success at either parties, in my opinion. But £30m is a huge amount of money, and if Wenger – or Rodgers – has that money to spare, then surely there are better options than the 27-year-old, no?
