It has been a good start to the season for Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud. After a solid, if not spectacular, first season in England, Giroud has found his feet, so to speak, and is playing at the top of his game.
Not only that but he has managed to score outside of London in the league having not been able to do so last season. Real progression, that.
Anyway, France played Australia last night and Didier Deschamps men smashed the Socceroos 6-0. ‘But it’s only Australia’ I hear you cry and, yes, they aren’t exactly a footballing powerhouse. But this is a nation that gave us, er, Tim Cahill.
Bit of a nightmare, then, for Australia as they were put to the sword by France’s vast array of attacking talents. Giroud bagged himself a brace and it was his first goal that had all the fans jumping out of their seats shouting ‘Oh la la’.
And it is a truly beautiful goal. Franck Ribery works some space on the left of the box and plays it inside to Giroud who, from just outside the six yard box, chips the ball of the keeper. Sumptuous. Divine. Beautiful. Cheeky. All of these are correct terms with which you can describe the goal. Please feel free to add your own.
Giroud is brimming with confidence and this goal is a testament to that. Arsenal fans will be hoping that not only can he continue this rather good form but that he stays healthy, too, otherwise Arsene Wenger will be forced to unleash Nicklas Bentdner on the world.
