Barcelona Linked With Arsenal Midfielder But How Does He Compare To Their Current Crop?

Arsenal fans are enjoying life at the moment. Their side sit two points clear at the top of the Premier League and have a squad worthy of a realistic title challenge, all the while they have a man at the helm who knows exactly how to win silverware. However, with Spanish sources claiming that Barcelona are interested in one of their key players, Jack Wilshere, it could throw a spanner in the works. But does the 21-year-old have what it takes to cut it amongst the world’s best at Camp Nou?

This season has been a strange one for Wilshere. He has been pushed out into the wide positions as a result of the effectiveness of Mathieu Flamini and the sparkling form of Aaron Ramsey, and did an average job.

The fact that he is all left footed hindered him slightly, but he completed 83% of his chances and created 12 chances. Not renowned for scoring goals, Wilshere has now struck twice in successive games and is giving Wenger a selection headache as Santi Cazorla comes back into the side.

However, Wilshere’s stats look pitiful up against those at Barca. Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas are all streets ahead of the England international, and some argue that so is Alex Song, who left the Emirates Barcelona last year. Every midfielder in the Barca first team have a better pass completion rate than Wilshere, have a better duel success and both Fabregas and Xavi have created more.

I think Wilshere needs to opt out of the move that has seen Song so heavily criticised over the last season and a half and continue his quest to become an Arsenal legend.
