Despite being October, slap bang between the summer transfer window and its January counterpart, there are still rumours flying about about the comings and goings of players throughout Europe. Chelsea have been rumoured with a number of players, and this time it’s Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi, whose contract in the French capital runs out next summer.
But where would he fit in?
Matuidi is a central player who tends to be more defensive than he is attacking, and is renowned for his ball retention skills. Not only can he strip opponents off the ball, but the way he kick-starts his team-mates is brilliant to watch. The 26-year-old has won 27/31 of his tackles this season in Ligue 1 and completed 91% of his passes.
Should he arrive at the Bridge he could be the ideal player for Ramires. While the Brazilian bursts up and down the pitch with aggression and bite, Matuidi’s composed play would release his shackles and provide some much needed cover. He’s more agile than Frank Lampard, Jon Obi Mikel and certainly Michael Essien, and he is also a more accurate passer of the ball.
He has also scored one and made seven key passes in his 10 league games, and completed 96% of his Champions League passes. PSG are still unbeaten in their 13 games this season and that’s partly down to the powerhouse in the middle of the park, Blaise Matuidi.
