It seems as though Arsenal have lost out on Derby County playmaker Will Hughes at the hands of Premier League rivals Liverpool, and while some suggest that it’s not a huge loss as they still have the likes of Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey, here is what the youngster is all about.
Hughes can play anywhere across the attacking midfield roles and has been known to drop back when needed. This season he has made 15 appearances in the Championship and scored three goals.
The 19-year-old’s main strength, though, is his passing. When such a creative player is performing in such a young body we sometimes see everything crumble. But Hughes is a player who is exciting the second division and rightly so.
He has claimed three assists, completed over 86% of his passes and averaged 1.9 key balls per game.
Hughes is a player who never shies away from possession. If he doesn’t have the ball then you can be sure that he is working space for himself to collect it again in order to slip a pass through to a team-mate.
He also loves to chip in with the defensive work- in his 15 appearances he has averaged 3.1 tackles per game, made 17 clearances and seven interceptions.
He may not be able to match what the current Arsenal crop are churning out right now but in the future it’s a whole different ball game.
This kid has potential.
