With the World Cup just around the corner, there will be plenty of players looking for a move in the new year to boost their hopes of travelling with their countries to football’s biggest stage. One of those men, supposedly, is Mousa Dembele of Tottenham, who has fallen out of favour at Spurs despite his pleasing statistics.
It’s not all bad news for the Belgium international, though, as the same reports suggest that he is wanted by a huge host of topflight clubs. Liverpool, Southampton, Newcastle, ASton Villa, Cardiff and Swansea are all supposedly after his signature, as well as Italian side Napoli.
But what will they be getting?
Dembele is a simple player. He keeps things ticking over in the middle of the park with his intelligent methods. He has completed 91% of his passes, won 23/28 of his tackles but most impressively he has been successful in 26/28 of his attempted take ons.
He has exceptional ball control and is a creative outlet – only Andros Townsend, Kyle Walker and Christian Eriksen have completed more key passes this season from the entire Spurs squad.
To get the best out of Dembele you need an anchorman next to him, as at times he has looked clueless playing with Paulinho, but all in all Dembele is a solid player and wouldn’t have a problem finding another club if needs be, I wouldn’t have thought.
