David Luiz is renowned as a kooky character, but some argue that it’s his personality that is his downfall on the pitch. He is a laid-back player who allows players to run at him as he believes he has the necessary pace, positional sense and intelligence to beat them at their game. It’s not often that that he actually does get the better of his opponents, though, and with reports from the Metro suggesting that Bayern Munich are likely to come in with an offer for the Brazil international, I suggest that Jose Mourinho cashes in.
Rafa Benitez realised that the fuzzy-haired defender was too much of a liability to deploy in the heart of his defence and pushed him forward a little bit into the anchorman role. That way, when he gallivanted up the pitch with the ball at his feet, should he lose the ball then he has a back four behind him to cover him.
Despite his height and strength, Luiz is actually shoddy in the air, too. His balance is poor, his passing ability is ripped apart as a result of his over ambitious style and he’s generally having a tough time at Stamford Bridge this season.
Should the German champions be seriously interested in the centre-back, then I think he should cash in and spend the money on someone like Eliaquim Mangala.
Chelsea fans, what do you reckon?
