Although Sweden narrowly missed out on a place in the upcoming World Cup thanks to a sensational individual display from Cristiano Ronaldo in the play offs, they are a nation crammed with incredible talents. One of those who have impressed recently has been Ola Toivonen of PSV Eindhoven, who has impressed so much that Liverpool are after him on loan, according to the Mirror. But who is he?
The Swede has been a major part of the Dutch outfit’s season, playing in 14 of their 16 league games this term. He has scored just once, which is a concern, but he has made 10 key passes. He can play in central midfield but is traditionally an attacking player and can be deployed in a role further up the pitch.
A major plus for the Liverpool bosses is that the forward will be out of contract at the end of the season so if he impresses should he move, despite the fact that he was once rated at about £15m. He has only completed five dribbles this season, made nine tackles and completed 79% of his passes, but the way I see it, it’s a win-win situation.
If he arrives on a loan and proves to be a hit, then they are presumably in pole position to sign him on a free, and if he doesn’t cut the mustard then they can send him back.
